Facts about buffalo 

Buffaloes are valued worldwide for their milk, meat, and hides which are used in various industries.


Buffaloes are considered very dangerous animals as they can attack those around them, whether humans or other animals, so caution is advised. 

You can identify individual buffaloes by the presence of circles near their eyes. 

Buffaloes use their horns as weapons to easily fend off predators. 

They require a large amount of water and often get it from natural sources. 

Buffaloes communicate through scent marking with leaving their scent by rubbing themselves on trees or defecating across the area, and through sounds as it divides its sounds into so-called hostile sounds and normal sounds. 

Buffaloes form herds led by active explorers who navigate and determine herd movements.

The buffalo, known as the king of beasts 

Body: has a distinctive large body. 

Color: usually black or magnificent brown. 

Length: Its shoulder width is about five feet and its length are double that. 

Head:
Buffaloes have a large head with thick, curved horns that serve as a formidable weapon intimidating all animals around them, and they have relatively long, somewhat curved horns. 

Weigh: Male buffaloes weigh around 300 to 800 kg, while females weigh between 250 to 650 kg.

Legs, tail: 

They have long, defined legs and a small tail

Buffaloes have legs that are white from the top to the bottom. 

The udder: The udder of the buffalo consists of four mammary glands, each ending in a teat.
Hide: They also have a tough hide with a dense coat of hair. 

How much does the buffalo eat daily

It can consume about 2% of its body weight per day, which is approximately 16 to 17 kilograms.
This includes green fodder, straw, and feed for lactating buffaloes.

Buffalo diet

Buffaloes require a variety of nutrients for different bodily functions. They feed on wheat bran, legumes, hay, and clover which provide calcium and proteins. Additionally, they need grains and fortified products to meet additional requirements for growth and milk production.

Reproduction stages of buffaloes:


Male and female buffaloes live in separate groups and mate during the rainy season. Courtship lasts for 3 days before mating, signaled by the scent of females. Dominant males are the only ones allowed to mate.
The gestation period ranges from 281-334 days.

Water Buffalo:
The largest type of buffalo found in Asia.

African Buffalo:
A wild animal found in African forests.

American Buffalo:
Also known as the American Bison, found in North America.

European Bison:
Resembles the American buffalo but is larger and taller.

 How many hours does a buffalo sleep?

Buffaloes spend most of their time in the shade and sleep for only 10 minutes at a time. They average about one to two hours of sleep per day.

Buffaloes develop a woolly coat in winter to protect themselves from cold temperatures and snow. They also wallow in mud to cool off in hot weather and protect themselves from insects.
