This species inhabits various coral reef environments at depths ranging from near the surface to 120 meters.
The Persian fish belongs to the lutjanidae family, a group of ray-finned fishes.
Its scientific name is Aphareus rutilans.
The Persian fish is a very important species for local commercial fishing and is popular as a game fish, although there have been reports of ciguatera poisoning caused by it.

The head:  a slightly elongated head with a non-sharp snout, along with a clear longitudinal groove extending from the snout to the eye.

The tail: It features a deeply forked tail fin.

The teeth: The teeth in the jaws of the Persian fish are arranged in bands with distinctive canines at the front.
The molars appear in a crescent-shaped position.

The fins: The dorsal fin has 10 spines and 11 soft rays, while the anal fin consists of 3 spines and 8 soft rays.
The spinous portion of the dorsal fin of the Persian fish has black spots at the base of the last five spines.

The length: The maximum total length of the Persian fish is 112 cm.

The weight: The maximum published weight is 15.4 kg.

Catching this type of fish is difficult and requires skilled fishermen due to its tendency to bite and escape, so the angler must be quick and skilled to catch it before it escapes.

Where does the Persian fish live


The Persian fish lives in groups at varying depths between 100 to 120 meters, and is abundant in areas with steep slopes or wide muddy areas with extensive coral reefs.
The Persian fish ranges from the Red Sea and the eastern coast of Africa southward to northeastern South Africa and across the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, where it is found from northern Japan southward to Australia.
The Persian fish can also be found on Lord Howe Island, Middleton Reef, Christmas Island, and Cocos Island.
