The most important information about the weevils

Sucking mite: It is called the devil’s insect. It is a small arachnid that belongs to eight-legged arthropods.

The weevil is a type of beetle, which belongs to the weevil family, where it is small and dark in color.

Most weevils are plant insects, but some are attracted to homes, which are bug-like insects.

Mites include two large orders of arachnids, the mites and the mites.

The mite has a long bosom extending from the front of its head.

The mite has two antennae on both sides of its mouth.

The mouth of the mite is characterized by a long proboscis, which in some species swells to exceed the length of the rest of the insect’s entire body.

The mite has many shapes and colors, including cylindrical or oval.

The mite is characterized by its dark brown to black color.

The size of the mite varies, starting from 3 mm to more than 10 mm in length.

There are some mites whose bodies are covered with hair, while others have what looks like scales on their bodies.

The most important characteristic of the weevil insect is the shape of its head.

As the adult insect has an elongated head.  It has a small proboscis in its front.

While in some weevils, the proboscis is equal to the length of the entire body.  Some of them do not have a proboscis.

Weevils can be killed by heating the beans to 140 degrees for 15 minutes, or placing them in the freezer for six days.

Weevils prefer a warm, moist environment, and some live on plants.

The mite is harmless to humans and is non-toxic, even if it is eaten accidentally.

Meaning that mites do not cause harm to homeowners, pets or home furnishings, but they do damage many stored foods.

The mite family is one of the largest families in terms of the number of its species in the animal kingdom, with more than 65,000 species belonging to it.

How do weevils get into the house?

Weevils live near the house, whether in the yard or garden.

Weevils are found on fruit trees, and they also enter through scratches in the house.

If this insect enters the home, it is found in spices, rice, flour, and corn flour.

Weevils spread in the bedroom, or in bed, and also live in furniture.

Weevils reproduce very quickly, so they must be controlled as soon as they appear

What is the food of the weevil insect?

Weevils feed on food stored in homes, where they are attracted to dry foods and legumes.

Weevils prefer to eat corn, wheat, and barley, in addition to rice, nuts, and pasta.

Weevils also feed on flour and grains, in addition to oatmeal and leftover bread.

Weevils also feed on plants and leaves, as there are some insects that destroy agricultural crops.

 Weevils reproduction

The life cycle of a mite depends on its type.

In the spring, the adult weevils lay their eggs on the ground, and when the eggs hatch, the larvae begin to bury themselves in the ground.

The female weevil uses its proboscis to dig holes in grains, such as wheat, oats, and rice, in addition to corn, barley, and various legumes.

Once a hole is made in the food grain, it lays its eggs inside it, then closes the hole with a gelatinous substance such as glue, which it makes with its body.

The eggs hatch after a few days, and the larvae uses its surroundings to feed.

One female mite lays approximately 400 eggs.

The larva spends the winter underground, and emerges as a fully fledged insect in the spring.

How do we get rid of weevils?

Pepper can be used and sprayed in large quantities at home, in order to reduce the possibility of the spread of mites.

Bay leaves are a natural deterrent to weevils, as they can be placed in food containers.

Shelves can be wiped with vinegar after washing them with soap and water, because vinegar is a natural ingredient that kills mites

Insecticides such as permethrin or bifenthrin can be used and placed around the foundations of the house if mites are widespread in the house.

Boric acid can be used and mixed with flour, and placed in places where weevils have been seen, because it is effective in attracting them and then poisoning them.

In addition, a vacuum cleaner can be used to suck out mites in the home.

The mite can be frozen to get rid of it, and thus the insect will die along with its eggs.

You must make sure to clean the cabinets and the house well to get rid of weevils.
